Gloucester MA Fishing Boat

The Karen Lynn is a 2007 state-of-the-art 43 foot Downeast fishing boat. We had a Northern Bay 36, which was a great boat for five years. In 2005 we started thinking about building a bigger boat—one that would have a big spacious deck, hold 800 gallons of fuel for Canyon trips, have large capacity for keeping fish and ice, and most importantly, would allow us to comfortably fish almost every day regardless of the weather.

We spent a year riding on boats built on many different hulls and decided on the Lowell 43 because of its superior ride in all conditions. What finally convinced us was a ride we took in February in Harpswell, Maine on a day with 30-knot winds and seas of 9-10’. When we went right into at 18 knots comfortably without pounding, we knew we had found our hull.

In June of 2007 the Karen Lynn was launched and we spent the summer rigging and fine tuning it. Built to stringent ABS structural standards, the Karen Lynn is incredibly stiff for its 14-ton displacement. It cruises comfortably at 18-20 knots powered by a 800HP Scania Diesel. With twin, water-lift mufflers the boat is very quiet and trolls incredibly well.
