BLUEFIN TUNA

The small and medium bluefin tuna fishery has been fantastic since 2000. Small and medium tuna (under 73”) range from 30 to 225 pounds. We have been very successful trolling, as well drifting live bait. The boat’s sonar gives us a great advantage in finding pods of tuna that are feeding below the surface. We will use a combination of light spinning and conventional rods depending on what you are looking for and the conditions. We fight all tuna on top of line Shimano Tiagra gear, stand-up, with Braid harnesses. This is as exciting and challenging as fishing gets. When you have landed a 150 pound bluefin on 50# gear, you know you have had the fight of your life.

Federal regulations provide that the boat can keep one BFT measuring 47 inches to less than 73 inches. Any fish over 73” are property of the boat and must be sold to a authorized dealer mandated by federal regulations. We anticipate many more fish this year over 73” as the primary school of fish that has been off of Gloucester the past five years, shoul be in the 70”-80” range. Additionally each year we hook some true Giants that can range from 500-900 pounds! As we are starting to catch more fish over 73”, starting in 2010 we will return 25% of the net proceeds of the sale of the fish to the customer.
